Centro Giacometti 2026: A Successful Exhibition Season Comes to a Close
The 2026 exhibition season at Centro Giacometti in Stampa came to a close on Sunday, October 11. The commemorative year dedicated to Alberto Giacometti proved particularly successful, offering visitors a variety of perspectives on the artist and his work.
A photography exhibition explored different stages of Alberto Giacometti’s life, from his early childhood in the Bregaglia region to the final years of his life. A documentary presentation by Laurie Bischoff traced the emergence and development of Giacometti’s posthumous reputation. Further insights into the artist and his family were provided by a video installation devoted to the Giacometti family and several documentary-style short films from the Giacometti Art Walk series.
The cultural program accompanying the exhibitions was equally rich, featuring film screenings, book presentations, an international symposium on Giacometti, and two theatrical productions. A particular highlight was Paris Stampa –Giacometti’s Chariot, written and directed by Marek Kedzierski and starring Stefania Casini and Astra Lanz. The production commemorated the 125th anniversary of Alberto Giacometti’s birth on October 10, 1901. The program also included events celebrating music, gastronomy, and the culture and history of the Bregaglia region.
Throughout the season, the exhibitions were open daily from 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Over the course of more than 650 hours, visitors had the opportunity to meet knowledgeable experts at the Centro and learn more about the members of the Giacometti family and their work. This opportunity was particularly well received, as were the numerous guided tours and lectures.
During the summer of 2026, Centro Giacometti welcomed a total of 1,673 visitors, an increase of 240% compared with the previous year. Revenue from ticket sales rose by 411%. Several factors contributed to these encouraging results: the quality of the exhibitions, which focused specifically on the artists of the Giacometti family; the collaboration with Mariam and Michael Z. Warden; and the close cooperation with the Bistro Giacometti team, which provided visitors with food and refreshments during exhibition hours.
Centro Giacometti extends its sincere thanks to everyone who made such a rich and well-received program possible, including the participants, authors, speakers, graphic designers, cooks, Bistro staff, donors, and funding institutions.
The Centro Giacometti team is already working to expand its cultural offerings for 2027. Plans include a video installation exploring mountains in art and a biographical exhibition marking the 150th anniversary of the birth of Augusto Giacometti. We welcome conversations with individuals and institutions interested in supporting our future initiatives.
