The Centro Giacometti is not an art museum. It does not hold works by members of the Giacometti family, nor are there any sculptures by Alberto Giacometti on display.
Instead, it is an indoor and outdoor cultural center dedicated to introducing visitors to the geographical landscape of Bregaglia Valley; the places where the family lived and worked; the distinctive features of Bregaglia society; the artists’ biographies; and the writings, ideas, and works conceived and created by the Giacomettis in Stampa, Borgonovo, Coltura, and Maloja.
The Center focuses on specific themes and highlights key stages in the development of Giacometti art, from the late nineteenth century with Giovanni Giacometti, through the early twentieth century with Augusto Giacometti, to the 1960s with Alberto Giacometti.
To achieve this mission, the Center develops outdoor interpretive trails as well as thematic exhibitions, contemporary art exhibitions, guided tours, and lectures, sometimes in collaboration with other institutions.
